A news channel once reported that the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland is the scariest bridge in the US that some drivers would hire someone else to drive them from point A to B. It is almost 23,000 feet in length, different width for its east- and west-bound lanes (28 and 38 feet respectively), and clearance of about 190 feet. No wonder it scares the bejesus out of anyone.
I first drove through the Bay Bridge in 2014 when I took a job as a traveling PT in Centreville, MD. As Centreville is a small, quaint but historic town and nothing much to offer, I drove to and fro this area to Columbia, MD on a weekly basis. I remember feeling queasy the first time as it felt like the bridge was never gonna end, that I might hit oncoming traffic (yes, the 3-lane west-bound becomes both an east- and west-bound), and fall off the bridge at its pinnacle. But all those weekly drives made a better and hard Bay Bridge driver out of me that I end up enjoying the stunning view rather than think about the negatives.
The Bay Bridge is the gateway of the DMV area to popular summer getaways Ocean City, MD and the Delaware Beaches. Driving back to Columbia after visiting Rehoboth and Dewey Beaches, I asked my travel buddy to take a video of the bay bridge to give one a better visual of what it is like to cross the bridge. Scary? You be the judge.
