When I planned my Jamaica trip, I decided to extend my layover in Florida for several days--2 days in South Beach Miami and one day in Fort Lauderdale. Most flights to the Carribean and Latin America fly off from the tip of the Sunshine State peninsula and significant international airport FLL. Between Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale, I would choose the latter based on my most recent experience. Let me tell you why.
I grew up watching cartoons, from Bugs Bunny and his crew from Warner Bros and Mickey Mouse and the rest of the beloved childhood characters from Walt Disney. I have dreamt of one day stepping foot in Disneyland wherever country it's located. There was one in Hong Kong, the one nearest where I am from, the Philippines. I have dreamt, too, as a kid, of getting to meet Mickey Mouse in person.
A long fourth of July weekend, where better place to be than the happiest place on earth (nope I am not talking about Disney) for the rather, ehem, older crowd. I am talking about Universal Studios. Plus, there was also a reason why I chose to go Florida and not someplace else. Well, it also happens that one of my best buddies call the Sunshine State home, and for this trip I got to spend time with him and his family and also took a detour to the infamous theme park (and be aboard a helicopter too).
As my friend and his wife have two young kids, the family decided that it will just be the two of us to go Universal Studios. I like going to theme parks but I am not that hardcore when it comes to the rides, and it being Universal, being strapped to fast-moving roller coasters can be a little intimidating to say the least. |
